This class will show you how to collect rainwater and pump it using solar power. Licensed irrigator Dean Minchillo, Program Specialist with the Texas Water Resources Institute, will explain the basics of using rainwater for drip irrigation. He will be joined by DeVille Hubbard, a licensed irrigator, as they build a simple rainwater harvesting collection system at Owenwood Farm. Following the explanation of terminology and basic information, both experts will work with you to hook up a solar-powered water pump and lay drip irrigation lines. You will help install the flexible tubing system that doesn't require cutting PVC pipe, glues, or solvents. Once the irrigation system is complete, you will have time to ask questions. Attendees will also have the chance to win a rain barrel! Please remember to dress appropriately for the activities and feel free to bring a water bottle, snacks and a folding chair for the informational portion of the workshop.
