FRIDAY AUGUST 23rd, 2024 THE DALLAS ZOO 8:30AM - 11:00AM
Pollinator populations have been declining around the world for over 30 years due to loss of habitats, pesticides, invasive plants, etc. As pollinators play an important role in the ecosystem, the Native Plant Propagation Center, in partnership with the Dallas Zoo and Texas Conservation Alliance, is working together to grow native plants and distribute them in North Texas. Join us at the Native Plant Propagation Center to learn about their mission and benefits of using native plants in your yard or on the farm. About Native Plant Propagation Center Established in 2022, the Native Plant Propagation Center is dedicated to enhancing community resilience and promoting plant diversity in North Texas through restoration, education, conservation, and propagation of native plants. The Propagation Center focuses on cultivating local native prairie grasses and wildflowers that may not be commonly found in retail stores, including lesser-known species vital to our ecosystems. All plants are grown without pesticides, ensuring a friendly environment for insects and pollinators. Instructor Bio: Mei Ling Liu is the Community Conservation Director with Texas Conservation Alliance. She developed her passion for conservation in Taiwan. After moving to Texas in 2013 and discovering a bumble bee nest in her backyard, Mei Ling became an avid supporter of local wildlife. As an urban ecologist, she enjoys getting people involved in conservation in any way they can. At work, Mei Ling propagates native plants, and at home, she keeps a vegetable garden. Space is very limited for this event. Register only if you absolutely can attend. The Dallas Zoo requires waivers from everyone attending. Security and parking restrictions require us to meet up and then carpool to the Native Plant Propagation Center. Details will be sent to registrants the day before.
