Celebrate Halloween with our spooky feathered friends, owls. They play an important and helpful role in our growing spaces by controlling small animal populations like mice and rats.
Nathan May with Trinity River Audubon kicks off the night with a spirited talk about owls and how they fit into the North Texas ecosystem.
Then, our team will help you build a screech owl box. You will learn how to use common power tools and construct your owl box to take home!
Due to the high cost of materials, the class is limited to 13 lucky builders. The owl box you take home will need to be stained.
Bring work gloves and safety glasses if you have them. Wear closed-toed shoes and dress properly for woodworking.
PLEASE BE ADVISED WOOD CUTTING WILL TAKE PLACE OUTDOORS AND ASSEMBLY WILL TAKE PLACE INDOORS! DUE TO THE TOOLS WE WIL USE, THIS CLASS IS FOR PEOPLE 13 YEARS AND OLDER.
INSTRUCTORS:
Nathan May from the Trinity River Audubon Center.
Nathan May is an educator at the Trinity River Audubon Center who loves birds and Halloween, so he's very excited to join Grow North Texas for this event! At the Audubon Center, Nathan works to educate visitors and students of all ages on the importance of birds, the dire challenges they face, and what we can do to bring their populations back. If you want to spend more time nerding out over birds with him, he encourages you to come out to the Trinity River Audubon Center for one of the third Saturday bird walks to get a closer look at some of North Texas' winged wonders!
Helen and Kevin Dulac, Mike Helms, and Glen McGee will help you with the build.
The class will be at the gym at Owenwood Neighbor Space, 1451 John West Rd, Dallas from 6-8 PM and outside at our metal building. A water fountain and water bottle fill station are available inside.
Park behind the main building, towards the west side, near the metal building. You will see the building station with tools set up outside the metal building. Enter the main building through the single metal door on the north west side.
