With over 20,000 known bee species worldwide, approximately 4,000 are native to the United States. While these native bees and other pollinators play crucial roles in our environment, this class will focus on Apis mellifera, commonly known as the honeybee, and delve into their vital contributions to our ecosystem.
Beekeeper, Maleke O'Ney, will provide insights into the honeybee's life cycle, habitat, and duties within the hive. You'll also explore the essential role beekeepers play in maintaining the health and productivity of bee colonies. The class will offer a hands-on experience with beekeeping tools and equipment, and will end with an opportunity for you to taste locally produced honey!
The class will be in an upstairs classroom at Owenwood Neighbor Space, 1451 John West Rd, Dallas and will end outside on the farm at the bee yard. More details will be emailed once you have registered.
