Join us virtually as three experienced DFW growers will share their insights, lessons learned, and best practices to help you get the most out of your crops. MEET THE PANEL:
Greg Joel - Gregory Joel is the Farm Manager for Opal’s Farm, an urban farm named after the “Grandmother of Juneteenth and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Dr. Opal Lee, as well as a Board Member for Unity Unlimited, Inc. a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. He has worked with several local non-profits as a writer, consultant, and is currently an instructor for the “Taste the C.U.R.E (Community Urban ag Resource Education)” program partnering with Tarleton State University and Unity Unlimited, Inc./Opal’s Farm.
Lisa Patterson - Lisa Patterson is a dedicated Dallas County Master Gardener who currently manages the Production Farm at R&B1 Urban County Farm in Garland, TX. Through this project, Lisa has gained extensive experience with raised beds, drip irrigation, composting, mulching, integrated pest management, crop rotation, and more. Last year, the Farm donated an impressive 5 tons of produce to various local food pantries. In May alone, Lisa and other volunteers harvested a remarkable 1,468 pounds of vegetables, including 339 pounds of potatoes and other leafy greens. Despite the summer heat, Lisa continues to produce food, with the Production Farm yielding 1271 pounds of vegetables in June. Lisa's passion for gardening remains strong, and she eagerly attends many GROW North Texas events and classes to further her knowledge and skills.
Susie Marshall - Susie Marshall is founder and Executive Director of GROW North Texas, a Dallas-based nonprofit that cultivates healthy food communities by strengthening local food production and improving access to fresh, nutritious food. She has nearly two decades of experience working with food systems, food producers, and food assistance programs distributing surplus fruits and vegetables.
