Lane Rylander is a Sustainability Manager at Moonshot Compost, a data-driven composting company, where she partners with organizations to design and implement food-waste diversion programs while educating on the benefits of soil health and environmental impact of organic waste. Lane holds a degree from the University of Virginia, where her studies focused on the intersection of food systems and the built environment. After graduating, she spent several years gaining hands-on experience in local food production while working on a diversified organic farm in central Virginia. Her work is grounded in the belief that a truly sustainable food system must also be equitable. She is particularly interested in how shared meals foster connection and community, and how rethinking waste can strengthen both ecological and social systems.
